So, have you tried pinterest.com ?
This appears to be THE most practical alternative to Facebook, Flickr etc if all you want is to find amazing images of the everyday things, or alternative things, and then share them with your friends - very easily. If others like the images (not just your friends), they are 're-pinned' on their pinboards, but always refer back to the creator.. who may be YOU !! No complicated friend lists, just millions and millions of images for exploring and sharing
Its the ease of use that has made Pinterest grow from 0 to 12 million users worldwide in just 2 years!
Why not give it a try ..

Our next "Introduction to Digital Photography (101)" will be held on
Saturday February 4th 2012
As you can see from our latest Seminars page, this course involves a number of hands-on exercises so we can practice what we learn, and get feedback on our first results. Vanessa and I provide immediate feedback and tips for improvement on your photographs. Course notes, lunch and refreshments are also included throughout the day. This day workshop assumes no prior knowledge of photography, and cuts through all the jargon.

Following on from our 101 workshop, this makes more use of our Cameras "Manual" mode, and really gets us creative and using light in unusual ways to add 'drama' to our shots. Attendance at the above 101 workshop, or basic familiarity with your camera is desired to make the most of this day. Please contact us to discuss which seminar is best suited to you.
Our students always tell us how much fun these days turn out to be, and the confidence that people acquire as they master their camera becomes obvious as we look at the results we get. There is nothing like trying something out to make something new 'stick in our minds'.

Are 'point and shoot' Cameras really disappearing ?
Happy New Year everyone ! I hope 2012 is safe and successful for you all, and full of wonderful photographs
I'm occasionally asked if it is worth buying a Compact Camera (often called "Point and Shoot"), or saving up for a half-decent Compact Camera, or even delaying until you there are funds for a Digital Single Lens Reflex (D-SLR).
To a lot of people, a mobile phone camera acts as a perfectly good 'snapper' that is within reach all the time (except perhaps when you are in the shower ;o). Clearly, the images you are going to take are going to be uploaded IMMEDIATELY to Facebook, then a mobile phone wins hands-down .. but .. if you want to do anything remotely creative, or want your images to be more than a 10 minute fascination for your friends, maybe it is worth considering a Compact Camera after all. Not only do they offer more creativity, but they are also EASIER to get a steady, well-exposed, well-composed, and well-focussed shot. Compact Cameras are clearly designed to be used for years, and the more you use them, the easier they seem to be to use.
